Envy of the World

Envy of the World

We said we would be together forever.
It seemed so right so long ago.
We loved like no others could ever.
Jealous was the rest of the World.

Slowly though our roads began to drift.
We took that love for granted.
We stopped doing what we did best.
We stopped giving it our best.

We assumed there would always be another tomorrow.
Another day for us to give our best to one another.
One day became two and then too many.
Slowly the greatest love quietly slipped away.

Soon we assumed we still knew but in truth we just didn’t.
We said all the right things but did all the wrong ones.
Our love was becoming a little too tarnished.
Too many days gone by now to bring its luster back with ease.

Before we knew it we weren’t the envy anymore.
Our love was there but a canyon now between us.
The trickle of water had worn a deep path now.
You went your way and I went mine.

Never seemed possible for it to go wrong.
A love for a lifetime is what we had between us.
Taken for granted though, anything can go wrong.
So our love faded and apart we are now, space between us.

I still think of you and wish for us again.
Hoping still for one more tomorrow.
One more so I can appreciate it as a today.
One chance to have that love that has gone away.

One last chance for you and me too.
A chance to love like we loved before.
To make the World aware we are one again.
Make the World envy us once more.
