Follow the blazes
I used to walk around town.
I would walk and walk.
No plan but to walk.
My head was down.
The miles would go by and were all the same to me.
Tops of my shoes was all I could see.
Didn’t matter what was before me.
I just walked trying to find me.
I walked and walked around town.
Hoping to stumble upon a clue.
A clue to what I am to be.
I didn’t seem to find one.
Just kept walking and walking.
Until one day I could walk no more.
I sat and pondered the fate of me.
Where was I to go if I was to be?
Where was my path going to take me?
As I sat I looked around.
And there it was right before me.
A 2 inch by 6 inch white blaze.
Right there on the tree before me.
I stood and walked some more.
This time my head up for sure.
I saw another one not too far away.
Then another after that and I was on my way.
Soon town was behind me and white blazes before me.
The World was bigger than the town after all.
Now I was on a trail and was going my own way.
I wasn’t sure where these markings led.
I just followed to see where it led.
The World was so big before me now.
I just wanted to walk for now.
Enjoying the new found path.
The new direction I was on.
Never knowing where it might lead.
All I had to do is look ahead.
Can’t keep walking with your head down.
It won’t lead you anywhere but around and around.
So lift your head and look ahead.
Follow the blazes to happiness.
