I now know cold
I thought I knew cold growing up in Maine. I thought I knew cold from Thanksgiving Day football games at Fitzpatrick Stadium. I thought I knew cold from working in a freezer at Hannaford. I thought I knew cold from working at an ice arena with an outdoor pond. I thought I knew cold when I went to Portland Head Light yesterday morning. I thought I knew cold from my hike up Jockey Cap yesterday. But I was wrong about knowing cold. I personally met Jack Frost in Crawford Notch. I think he shook me my hand in one of the brief moments it was uncovered outside yesterday. Cold that you feel entering every pore of your body. Searching for heat to wipe out and replace with ice. I now know cold. It only took seconds for cold to let me know it had found me.
