Leading us
Have you ever watched the State of the Union? I am not asking if you listened or if you understood everything that was said by the President because I am quite sure he doesn’t even understand everything he says due to the vague nature of most of these speeches to allow for some wiggle room. I am asking have you ever watched the behavior of those who lead us. Or the behavior of those who we elect to represent us? They act like kindergarten students. Last night, as always, the Democrats would not stand and clap for key parts of President Bush’s speech while Republicans stood and clapped like happy little people. It is really foolish and childish to watch how each reacts so dramatically to different parts of the speech. I wish for once they could just be human and remember we elected them to represent us and our interests. These seem to get lost in their own interests and parties interests. I admit that I choose not to belong to a particular political party but rather reserve my right to choose anyone I deem fit to represent me and my interests’ best. I avoid the push from any party to follow a party line that may or may not follow my own thoughts on what we or I want for a direction. In truth so many of us go with the pack and do not understand the issue or simply do not listen to the issues. We get into a booth and go through the motions. We like a name or we like a certain party and they just get our valuable vote for just those simply reasons. Not because we know they stand for the very things we stand for but rather others less important reasons. Then off to Washington they go and on these nights they simply do their duty as party members. Cheering, standing, snickering, clapping, stomping, and making various faces are how these adults show their pleasure and displeasure with the speech. In truth it is not their personal pleasure or displeasure but more of the party line and theme. I am of this party and you are of that party so I simply must disagree with you instead of searching for common ground and the common good of our nation. It seems so simple yet these kindergartners are not able to see past the jaded shades they wear for their own party. On the occasion when they do try and get along it is possible to see progress. I wish they could remember whom they each represent and react accordingly as it doesn’t make them less Democrat or Republican but makes them more democratic and more representative of we the people who choose to elect them in the first place. If they forget us then let us hope that enough of us will forget them next election cycle. Then they will become one of us again.
