I wasn’t even 18 yet and I was ready to be on my own.
So cocky to think that I could do it on my own.
Packed my two trash bags of clothes and headed out the door.
Saying I was never looking back.

I was gonna make it on my own.
I believed I held the World in my own hands.
Nothing I couldn’t do and I didn’t need you.

High school and homework were still the order of the day.
If that wasn’t enough I had to play ball too.
Full schedule and here I was on my own.
Gonna make it while burning bridges down too.

Don’t tell me how it is cause I am better than you.
You watch me and I’ll show you too.
Then came rent, food and utilities too.

Oh no problem here, I will just get a job and show you.
A job, school, homework, and ball?
Hmm, see I can do it all. I am the man with a plan.
Keep watching cause I ain’t gonna fall.

Life was just fine and I was livin large on mac and cheese.
Getting the couple hours of sleep a night to get me through.
I see you there outside my window watching me too.

Oh no I forgot I had a test today!! No problem, I’ll ace it anyway.
I don’t need to study anyway. I can make it my way.
Got that test back and didn’t fair so well.
I failed it in a big way. Ah whatever, who needs English anyway.

Before I knew it I couldn’t play cause my grades were not good in anyway.
So no ball was okay cause I could just work more today.
School ah who needs it anyway. I know enough to do it my way.
So school, homework, and ball are all gone now.

I am doing it my way cause I am the man with the plan.
Gonna make it and show you that I did it.
I see you out there watching me.

Go on, move on, back to your side of life. Careful on the bridge cause it is burnt.
I wish it would fall but you won’t seem to let it.

When I make millions don’t you come crawlin to me.
You watch me roll in the dough now. Soon I be runnin the show.
You wait and see things are gonna work my way.
Oh no, I got fired today from Mickey D’s!! Told me to go on my own way.

They didn’t need a dropout like me to flip burgers and push fries.
Told me my attitude was way too big for my own shoes.
So set me free to be my own man.
That’s okay cause I’ll find a better job anyway.

Hhmmm, can’t find a job!! I guess maybe it ain’t so easy to go from one to another.
No job, no ball, no homework, and no school.
Well almost no food now too!!! What am I to do?
Rent needs to be paid and I need to eat but no money.

Maybe my way ain’t workin out quite right.
I need to change my plans and you’ll see it will all be right.
No more apartment, got booted today as I couldn’t pay.
Now what am I gonna do?

Took my two trash bags and walk the streets.
No direction in mind and no plan on my mind.

Chip on my shoulder has fallen off Mom.
I am ready to come crawlin back to you.
Home I am and where I shoulda always been too.

Back in school now with homework too.
Oh don’t forget I can play ball now too!!
