Sunflowers

Sunflowers

Forgive them for they know no better.
They were not told to be any different.
Not warned of a World so full of changes.

They do their thing the only way they know how.
Never seeming to be afraid.
Always reaching for the bright day.

Rain comes and rain goes.
The sunflower knows this well.
The sun will come again.

They grow so strong.
They grow so tall.
Standing tall, reaching for the sun.

Stretching to the sky.
Opened wide for all to see.
The sunflower grows higher and higher.

Along comes the rain.
Days on end it rains.
The sunflower still stands reaching for the sun.

Along come the winds.
Blowing mightily as they may.
The sunflowers hangs in there tall and proud.

It may bend and sway.
Watch though as it will see another day.
Still reaching for the sun even on the worst days.

Oh sunflower I want to be like you.
I want to learn to stand, to reach for my dreams.
I want to believe the sun will always shine.

I want to shrug off the bad days too.
Bending but never breaking no matter what they do.
Thanks for showing me how to reach into the blue!!

Liked your poem Sunflower or was it the plural. Too bad you didn't have a picture of one for your blog. I planted store bought sunflowers this year and my experience was bad. First the squirrels ate some of the buds and then the plants just wilted and died. Perhaps I overwatered.

Also liked your blog on stumbling, especially the 2nd paragraph. You articulated well what I feel many times.

By the by, now reading Lisey's World and after struggling a bit with the first chapter or so I am really into it.

A Kinger for you - Beat the bear until it begs for honey,
