UNLEASHED
The story you are about to read is fictional. It is sprinkled with facts, truths, and half truths as well. It is a figment of my imagination. You should be afraid. In fact, very afraid.
Chapter One
The area was not marked as off limits to the public and was in fact located deep within a National Park. The idea was to hide the facility in such a public place that it would escape suspicion from not only the general public but also from enemies who craved the evil that was developed within these walls. The Government was convinced the secret could be kept but they were wrong. Dead wrong.
The facility was surrounded by an electric fence and had guards that were disguised as Park Rangers. The signage said the building was a science facility for the National Park Service. It made perfect sense to have a facility such as this located in Acadia National Park in Maine as the location offered many terrains and environments to study in the surrounding area. Acadia located on Mount Desert Island offered many benefits to the scientists within its walls. The park has the highest mountain on the Atlantic Coast and is large with over 35,000 acres of land. And it was only six hours away from Boston but even better was the fact that it was only one hour from Bangor International Airport that had super long runways that accommodate any size plane that wanted to land at the airport. In fact, many large planes stopped at BIA for refueling before heading overseas to finish their journeys. More important though for the government and the “facility” as it was known was the military flights that often landed there as well. It was easy to sneak things in and out late in the night with these large planes being common in the area. Only three hours to the south was Brunswick Naval Air Station which offered more cover and patrols over the area. Training flights were common and “sonic” booms were not uncommon in the area around Acadia either. Further south there was even more protection for the facility in the shipyards that were off limits to the public and were thought to only be building or repairing ships or submarines. However, Bath Naval Shipyard and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard both had other missions as well as their public stated missions. Protecting the facility was something that was often done in the public eye as training missions or testing out new equipment or recently fixed equipment. The hidden elite units were always around but never seen.
The facility was perfect as not soul would expect such a deadly place to be located on the coast of Maine. Acadia offered forests, lakes, mountains, and the ocean as cover for the most important job the National Park Service had under its namesake.
Visitors to the park enjoyed all of the beauty without ever thinking twice about the heavy presence of Park Rangers. Acadia had more Rangers than all of the other National Parks combined across the United States. As one traveled the roads of the park little did they know that they were being watched closely from the trees that lined the roads throughout the park and eyes through binoculars on the mountains and hills. Sensors were buried at regular intervals around the area. No movement went unnoticed in the park. Visitors often spent time looking for and watching wild life that roamed the park freely. Little did they know that they were the entertainment for the Park Rangers. Each scrutinized to keep them sharp and no detail to small for them to check and re-check. The safety of the World depended on what was inside the facility remaining right where it was forever.
